Head of Primary

Line Management: Grade-Level Leaders, Heads of Departments (HoDs), Library Staff, School Office


Overview

The Head of Primary is a critical member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), serving as a bridge between Primary School staff and the Head of School. This role combines both teaching and administrative responsibilities, requiring exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills. The Head of Primary will oversee the effective daily management of the Primary School (K–G5), foster a positive learning environment, and ensure alignment with the school’s philosophy, objectives, and global education model.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Manage daily operations of the Primary School (K–G5) in line with the school’s Philosophy and Objectives.

  • Collaborate with school leaders to enhance and develop the international curriculum, particularly in English and Science.

  • Lead curriculum design, implementation, and assessment, ensuring continuous improvement.

  • Conduct professional appraisals and mentoring for Primary School staff.

  • Develop induction programs for new teachers to align with the school’s education model.

  • Advise the Head of School on staffing, budgeting, and facility requirements.

  • Assist in recruiting and training Primary School teachers.

  • Facilitate regular staff meetings to discuss curriculum, teaching strategies, and future development plans.

  • Address and resolve concerns regarding staff conduct, parent-teacher relationships, and student well-being.

  • Organize and manage school events (e.g., camps, assemblies, themed days).

Teaching and Learning

  • Lead professional development and mentorship programs for teachers.

  • Analyze curriculum effectiveness and refine teaching strategies.

  • Oversee teaching resources, enrichment programs, and assessment processes to enhance student learning.

  • Promote inquiry-based learning and cross-curricular themes.

Student Support

  • Implement the school’s Character Education program.

  • Develop support programs for students with additional needs.

  • Oversee reporting processes to ensure effective parent-school communication.

  • Collaborate with the School Nurse and Counselor to ensure student welfare.

Community Engagement

  • Foster positive relationships with parents to ensure collaboration and trust.

  • Represent the school at educational conferences and community events.

  • Participate in marketing efforts, including open days and admissions interviews.

  • Support initiatives to increase student enrollment, particularly in lower grades.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Master’s degree or above in Education or a related field.

  • Teaching Certification: Valid teaching qualification.

  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience with at least 3 years in a similar leadership role.

  • Curriculum Knowledge: Familiarity with international curricula (e.g., IB PYP, British, or American).

  • Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and mentoring abilities.

  • Competencies: Data-driven decision-making, cultural sensitivity, and ability to inspire and lead diverse teams.


Salary and Benefits

  • Annual Salary: RMB 600,000-700,000 (before tax).

  • Health Insurance: Up to RMB 40,000 per school year for the Head of Primary and family members.

  • Flight Reimbursement: Up to RMB 30,000 annually for the Head of Primary and dependents.

  • Housing Allowance: Free on-campus accommodation (rent included; utilities borne by the employee).

  • Education Allowance: Waived tuition for up to 2 children (excluding uniform, meals, and other expenses).

  • Relocation Reimbursement: RMB 2,000 provided for relocation expenses.

  • Meals: Free working meals provided on school days.
